MODDING AN 8V
« on: 22 May 2004, 02:17 »
I have an 8v gti fomr 1985 and the engine has been rebuilt and has 150compression in all 4 cylinders. i really wanted to mod up the engine,  any reccomendations??  i have been looking all over the net for mods but they dont seem to exist for the 8v without digi.  no turbo kits no cold air induction  etc also i wanted t oget a sport clutch... any ideas?  i was looking to get at least 40 hp more

8v k-jetted dubs r in some way a little hard to mod. If not done already u could start with the small things first and work ya way up.  Beacause u need the metering head to stay in place, it can't be replaced with an induction kit.  what u can do is modify it.  Large holes drilled in the bottom of the box, added with a k & N panel filter and a cold air pipe feeding it from behind the grill.  Bigger bore exhaust, four branch manifold, gas flow the head, high lift cams. that should get u a good 30 brake. as far as turbo's go I think its more of a universal job. not a specific kit. Some time it works out cheaper and more reliable to swap ur engine for another one that was already designed to be blown.  Maybe a G60 conversion would help u get way above ur expected figues.  If u want me to expand on the above then just say as these r only only pointers. As far as conversions go, someone will have to help me.  As far a clutch goes try http://www.candrenterprises.co.uk/transmissions.htm as an example.

Another way to upgrade your 8v clutch is to use a 16v pressure plate ;).

G60 engine is about 160hp. CIS fuel injection has 4 fuel pipes coming from the metering unit to each individual injector, digi has electronic injectors that are in a rail.
