At this point I think you should make it public knowledge.

1. Most owners of the GTi bought it cos it had extra power not cos it is limited.
2. I dont think many people care that they went over the run of 1500 as they have their car and thats all that matters to them.
3. Most people do not even know that the car went over its limited edition run.

I think you should take it up a level.

1. Get an email through to VWVortex.com. They are huge in the VAG world.
2. Get at least three people from every forum to email car magazines etc about the issue.
3. Dont focus on one dealership. Focus on as many dealerships as possible.
4. Email AutoExpress, car magazine and even send a few emails through to Topgear, Fifth gear.

IF you want to get VW's attention you have to hit back hard. Attack from all angles. No large company (Especially VW) wants bad publicity. Once you have car dealers emailing VW HQ for answers, Once you have Topgear commenting on it. Once you have VWVortex possibly putting it as a frontpage article on their webpage then you guys will get that placque.

I run a branding business that deals with exactly what you will be receiving from VW and I can tell you that I will have those placques to you all in under three weeks. To each of your personal home addresses. VW is talking rubbish and fobbing you off.

If you need help I can email a few people who I know that might be able to get VW moving.

Agreed.. but there is one small problem with all that.  The guys complaining (myself included) all own Ed30's and it wouldn't be in our interests if suddenly there was some kind of 'black mark' against the car that devalued it.

All of this poor communication and lack of customer service from VW does wind me up but I still own a great car.

Would this put me off buying another VW in the future? Realistically No.

That is exactly why I am approaching this complaint with VW in a professional but firm manner and not just running off to "all and sundry" shouting about how cr*p VW and ED30 are.

That is true Illyun.

However think of it this way. It not only gets the car itself more attention but will solve your problem. At first you may lose slight value but in the long run once you have the placques etc the value will stay.

Alternatively. There are about three other editions out there and the MK6 GTi is on the horizon. I am not in the Uk but it seems that the MK5 is holding its value pretty well so far. So why would this make any difference?

IF you can get the placques before the MK6 GTi is released then you are safe. I reckon that once the MK6 is out you will become a "Black MarK". But then again. Without having the placques you are also a "Black Mark" because nobody believes that the car is special edition.

Either way. By pushing VW for this they might learn (Like Renault did) the hard way not to screw its loyal customers around.  


SteveP- Nowhere did I mention the car or VW was crap. If you are sold a kettle that boils water in ten seconds and in reality it only boils it in 50 seconds and you payed a premium for that kettle. Would you be satisfied? Of course not. You paid a premium for the Edition 30. Yes it comes with colourcoding, bigger turbo etc but you also payed because only 1500 were being made. Much like the kettle a brand like VW Should uphold their name and not lie.

Guys i cant see how you are ever going to get plaques without a court case first.
If they issue plaques then once they get passed 1500 then are they not admitting that they produced more, opening them selves up to being sued.
 I think even fred west pleaded not guilty and this after they found women everywhere on his property.
I just cant see it happening without official proof one way or the other.
