Bare essentials for engine?
« on: 20 May 2004, 18:27 »
I want to install my engine to see if the thing works or not (it came in the boot)

What are the bare essentials needed to run it? I don't need the gearbox, so won't be using that, will support the sump with a jack and block of wood.

Cheers,

John

Make sure the engines secure before you try anything.

Firstly, what engine is it?

You will need the gearbox for the starter.
Steve.

To be honest you might just as well fit it properly to test it. As Steve says, you need the gearbox on to fit the starter and it would be very difficult to keep secure without the gearbox mounts supporting the whole lot. About the only thing you could get away with is the driveshafts.

Something you could try, to make sure you're compressions are ok is a 'leak-down' check.......you could then at least identify possible problems with the valves, pistons, bores etc.
