please shed some light chaps 8v wont start

Hi guys, i have been the happy owner of an 8v digi since feb 08 ..... been using the car quite alot lately, i serviced it when i brought it. plugs , leads rotor arm dizzy cap , blue temp sensor and car has been fine ever since this morning!!!! i went out to car turned the ign on , fuel pump primed as normal. it turned over but failed to start!!!!
is there any advise u chaps can give me as where to start looking???

if it is and not starting check your ecu!!

i changed me speedo cable an knocked i an it come lose

sounds silly i knw but its a shot in the dark!!!

plus you bin doin alot to it!!

This may be obvious, but this is what engines need to run: fuel reaching the cylinder (in roughly the right amount); compression; a spark in the cylinder at the right time. Diesels don't even need the latter! Think logically until you find the fault.

right chaps i have been looking at golf this morning, and it doesnt spark  ......... i have checked voltage at coil end but im only getting 7.8 volts can anyone shed any light to why im not getting 12v plese help

hmm, the black wire to coil comes direct from the ignition switch thru the fusebox, unless you have an alarm?  to confirm its this causing your problem, run a fused wire direct from the battery +ve to the coil black wire side, there should be a handy spare terminal.  If the car starts you know the fault is the ign live feed from the ign switch.  You dont want to keep it like that though, but if you do run it liek that for a while make sure you disconnect the battery side whenever you stop the car, coil doesnt like being energised for long periods of time without the engine running!

john i was waiting for you to appear . the GOD of mk2 golfs, i have fiddled some more and found the problem ..... i was checking the voltage going to the small ign module .. and i was only gettin 4v :angry:then with ign on i pulled a random fuse and muti meter showed 12v ... confused lots now lol . so i put fuse back in and fidled with fuse box and multi meter reading went from 12v down to 4v . so  i whipped the fuse box out and found a dodgy connector sorted that out and hooorah it lives again ...  took me all morning to find it thou :embarassed: but best part was it didnt cost anything
