B reg 1.3 3 door - what to do?
« on: 04 October 2008, 14:04 »
The first car I ever bought has been sitting in my garage on SORN for about 8 years now (owned since 1997 whilst at Uni).  It's a B reg 3 door in Mars red.  It has no rust and a nice black/red striped GTi interior.  The reason it's been sitting there is that I have been driving company cars up until the beginning of this year ( I now drive a J Reg 16v ) and about 3 months before I 'put it to sleep' I put on £300 worth of Spax loweed suspension, which is or was at the time worth more than the scrap value of the car.  I even bough some genuine big bumpers with fogs for £120 when I bought the car but still have'nt got round to fitting them

So what should I do with it? brake it and scrap the rest, or strip it down to the shell and make some sort of project out of it?

I don't want to just chuck in a 16v engine as I already have one. mmm?

Thanks in advance.

You could try and sell it? These early mk2's are quite sought after now i think!

I did think about that, but as you can imagine it has no T&T and I paid £300 for it back then and I bought my Valver 6 months ago for £625, so what would I get for a B reg 1.3?

Havent a clue tbh mate but as it depends on the condition etc.. I brought my 1.6 a year ago for £300 in need of a few little bits doing. You could always use it as a cheap runaround if you needed to or as you said break it for parts (possibly get more for it but more hassle)

Why dont you give your self a budget say £800, get the car looking nice, put the bumpers on and get it on the road.

then you can either make a decision to sell it, or if your still keen on it then modify and alter it to you tastes.

Or just work out in ur head what you feel the cars owes you and sell it as a project, if the bodys as rust free as you say then, and as its a 3door, then its bound to sell quick anyway.

if the shell is a NON sunroof one , then someone in the MkII Racers will know of a buyer, If my old driver had been sunroof free i could have sold it 4 times over
