bought the misses a mk5 GT Sport a few months back, pushing around 170bhp. which trust me for her is more than enough power  i love it, still gives 50 mpg!
got a lot of stick from the mk5 boys on this forum, cos i wanted to put the gti bumper on as the gt sport is just plain ugly. Anyway i upset a few people, you know the purists, trying to say im just pretending ive got a gti. well no, ive got the diesel version, but i just want it to look good rather than the back end of a bus!! hehe, anyway, i dont post in the mk5 bit anymore, Gti or not its not really a big deal, just a car.

That's a nice collection you have, but if you don't mind me saying there is a lot of moolah there and you don't seem very old. How!?

Im 25 mate. Money well not really

the 49 shell was £1500
chassis £600
then u just buy parts when u can afford them

the 1st orange bug was £500
2nd orange bug was £200

the mk1 escort was £600

series one i got for £600

so its more that im just very lucky, i always seem to be in the right palce at the right time. im always finding cars at stupidly cheap prices. which is probably my weakness, as i keep taknig on these poxy restorations, and im bloody sick of them.

thats why i bought this VR6, i looked into doing it my self, but after all the bloody cars ive fixed up i think ive now finially realised its better to spend a bit more and get something that is how u want in the 1st place.

If u look carefully at the pic of the S1 shell in its new paint, it was taken at my mums house, in the back round is my van.

I was at university for one year and i hated it, as you can see im a hands on guy not a bloody book worm!
So in the space of one week asked out a pretty girl (now my wife), left uni, bought the S1 and started up my own business. hence the van in the pic.

Money is not really the factor in life, its how look at things, and how you make them work for you to your best advantage.

i mean take the cossie, it wasnt even for sale, and i convinced the chap to sell it to me. even tho i was £4k short of the asking price. so the next 2 weeks i worked my arse off, and earnt the money. Thats how i live, if i want something, i go out and earn it.

"Mk5 owner" haha, yeh, i think a lot of them were offended and couldnt understand why id choose the gt sport over the gti. well because i think the gt sport is better as a daily driver! I suppose a lot of them have worked hard for their mk5 gti's and are proud of them, thats probably the difference here!

All the cars ive had i bought because i have a love, a passion for them, and not for materialistic values or to keep up with the "jonses"

"skills" :embarassed: dont be silly. im probably no more skilled than you. Cars are just nuts and bolts and common sence, i certainly dont have any skills.

No worries, this is part of the reason ive gone back to my roots and back to VW's as a hobby. the ford scene is so clicky and full of cocks. Such a shame as some of the RS cars are actually very pretty and very intresting "classics". just a shame about the yobo immage that goes with it.

THe vw scene is so more chilled, and more of a philosophy, rather than the ford "my cars quicker than yours, has cost more money, has more power"etc

Well if you want something go and get it, thats what i say. no such word as can't. Its calculated risks that all. its just most people dont take the risk!

Mate, if hes looking for any bits just let me know i have a shed full of bits, probably 1/2 and rs turbo still in there!
Also my best mate is selling her S1, and its just as clean as mine was!

PLANS FOR THE MK2

well dont have any as such.

The paint is near perfect, as you can see, my paint standards are high, i dont like crap paint!! there are a few small paint defects i will correct, both about the size of a 20p, and are just parking scratches.
but like i said thia was the clincher that made me get the car, cos its 100% rust free and great O.E paint!!

Engine im not sure, probably just run it as it is for a bit, get used to how it feels. i may do a rebuild, just for piece of mind. and at the very least put a new timing chain kit on
Im not really fussed about power, the cossie was 0-60 in around 5 secs, and to be honest its to quick.
the beauty of the vr6 is you can drive it to a track day, have a great time, and know that your gnna be able to drive it home again with out any problems!
It comes with a spare cylinder head and rocker cover, so i may play with these if i rebuild.

engine bay i plan to give a good clean up, maby polish the spare rocker cover. just smartem it up.

its got g60 brakes, and newish coilovers, so suspension wise its fine

i may change the exhaust, theres one i heard once with a 2.5" and it was beautiful.

interiors good, need to tidy head lining, maby change the wheel. the rev counter does not work, so maby i will install the mk3 vr6 clocks, to smarten it up a bit?

Want to put the gti 16v badge back on the rear, and maby change the grill to the single with the red stripe. it has no stripe at the mo, and to me the red stripe is what makes it a gti!

thats about it really, as i said i bought this one cos it don't need anything doing to it!

very nice motors you have I think you should rebuild the lump for piece of mind

I wish i did i bought a 2.9 engine last year with not alot of history
bottom end let go at vw festival after spending lots on the top end

year before that i had the 2.8lump in and it got the death rattle
no history with that once

now im having to strip the car again rebuilding the full thing
all uprated now though ready for a turbo doing it all right this time
not cutting corners

yeh, as said im gna just run it as it is for a bit, its my 4th car so is only gnna be used on the odd sunday.

im not after more power really, but would be nice to have a fresh reliable motor. the chains not noisey which is a good sign!

so what sort of price am i looking at for the parts to rebuild it, im not too familiar with these engines!

THe vw scene is so more chilled, and more of a philosophy, rather than the ford "my cars quicker than yours, has cost more money, has more power"etc

after i sold my RS500 i bought a RS Turbo S2 and people in north yorkshire RS owners club wouldn't talk to me cos i "only had an RS Turbo !!!!!"

Sorry but what was the first hot turbocharged prodution front wheel drive sucsess ?? i think it was the S1 RS Turbo

they are a bunch of tommy tankers and i will never join the RS owners club again !!
