Which car to buy next year???

When I am made redundant next year I should have £5-6K to spend on a new VW for a daily motor. I have several thoughts running through my head (most of them not VW-related so we won;t discuss those here...). However, I have got the list down to 3 or 4. I would like fairly cheap running costs but a good shove when I need it. I have come up with the following:

Golf or Bora V6 4 Motion then get an LPG conversion.

Bora Sport TDi 150 with a chip/remap.

Friend of mine (he's a bit old) has a Rover 75 V6 auto with LPG on it - he can fill it up for less than £20 and gets £15 off his tax. Not fantastic on the tax but good on fuel. I still like the idea of the TDi though.

Any suggestions???

The Bora sport sounds  :cool:     cheap compared to a golf and they are rapid with a remap

If your worried about fuel economy why consider a V6?  How about a decent Mk4 1.8T with a modest remap... Faster than the 4 Motion except for in the wet, and 40mpg if you take it steady. Cheaper to service and loads of spares on ebay. Everyone's a winner.

As for LPG... I would have to be doing a serious amount of miles before I could be arsed with an LPG conversion.

Reason I'm considering the V6 with LPG is the bottom's falling out of the market for quick cars with big engines so for about the same money as a TDi 150 I could be looking at the V6 with LPG conversion done. However, the TDI is rather nice...  :smug:

what will the tax be on the v6 tho?? as i'm sure the new tax thingy uses manafacturers data and dosent give discount for l.p.g conversions? yet the diesel will be cheap!

My money would be on the Bora, The 150 is very rapid and also good on fuel
