Idle speeds

I know i should be posting in the Mk2 section for this one as I am a 16valver, just thought there might be a couple more on here first but im trying to find out what the normal idle speed is for the 16v engine. At the moment mine seems a tad reluctant to spin down on revs after ive lifted off the throttle. And idles exactly on the small line above the 1KRpm mark on the mk1 dash (im guessing this is a marker for the 8v autochoke).  

Also is there any way i can adjust the idle speed? The same is happening on my mk2, i think it may be down to the hot weather we're having at the mome!

The fuel systems are - K Jet for the mk1 and DigifaRt   for the mk2.

All i no is my car idles at 750-1000,dependin on wot mood shes in!

Mine Idles as spot on the 1000 mark (J reg mk1 cab).

A healthy car thats warmed up (8v or 16v) should maintain a steady tickover RPM no matter what its set at, it should be the same everytime.  I always set mine spot on 1000 as any lower than this seems to cause vibrations through the car and any higher sounds wrong and causes overheating in traffic.  On a K-jetted motor, idle speed ajustment is done by a small bolt on the back of the Plenum chamber near the throttle cable.  Very easy.  It's in the haynes. Same for 8v and 16v.  For the Digifant, I recommend asking a mk2 owner as I have no knowledge of these.

The Screw is fully closed and idles at 1000rpm. It gets hot when stationery as in the fan comes on and the temp gauge always sits just above half. The idle control screw on mk2 is the same but has more effect with the idle speed in sense that, if i turn it too far, the engine under runs and stalls, this is not happening on the mk1 Kjet. I find that when the mk1 idles my whole car shakes but these 16v engines run a tad lumpy so ive been told.

Im wondering if anything else can be adjusted to make it idle lower, possibly throttle cable adjustment, pedal adjustment as i do have a set of heavy sparcos on the pedals, i find that if i lift the throttle cable up, it reduces idle just a tad.

Drill some holes in your pedals - should make them lighter

or re-adjust the cable at the chamber end. less messy.

My idle seems to be a little high at about 1250rpm but I looked to adjust the idle screw and found it missing! is there any other way to adjust the idle?

Yes, adjustment can also be made from the very end of the cable where it attaches to the inlet flap for the plenum chamber.  If this doesnt make sense let me know.  gotta sign off for a bit as just finishing work and goin home.

Ive sorted one problem which we just found,  i noticed that i wasnt making much power under load with my foot on the floor just now so a friend of mine who had the car 2 owners previously checked the throttle cable. It was barely opening the butterly and didnt even touch the switch that opens the second part of the inlet plenum! After some fiddling with the throllte cable we managed to make it work, now my head snaps off at even the slightest touch of the throttle! Its a pain that i still can't drive over 4000rpm, only 250 miles to go  :'(

It still takes a few seconds to rev down though, im wondering what causes this too.
