SteveP - maybe just to add a bit more "gravity" to your letter, you really ought to include the full VINs, along with the names/addresses/reg numbers of registered keepers.

And for future reference, you could actually sort them by VIN order, and actually check when they were built.

Good point T_T, but as some people are a little relucant anyway to send some details to a man they have just meet on the t'internet as it is so asking for all that seamed a bit much.

Regarding you point on the "overbuild" is there any way to get offical copies of VW press releases?, as I have seen lots of stories on the net about VW appologing for the 800 additional cars at the time when the Pirelli edition was confirmed earlier this year, all calling it something like a "honest mistake".

Thanks,

Steve

I've just been told that although the plaques are at VW HQ in Milton Keynes they have not decided on the process for distribution, i.e. sent straight to customers or stealers.

As soon as I have more info I will let you all know.

VW press Release

GOLF GTI CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH LIMITED EDITION MODEL

The fastest and most powerful production Golf GTI yet is set to kick off celebrations as 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of the original hot hatch – the Mk1 Golf GTI. Despite three decades having passed since the defining GTI was conceived, the spirit of the original is still very much alive in the new Golf GTI Edition 30.

At its heart is an uprated version of the 2.0-litre, ultra-responsive four-cylinder T-FSI engine fitted to the standard GTI. The result is 230 PS – a rise of 30 PS over the standard car. This is mated to a choice of six-speed manual or sequential DSG gearboxes channelling drive through the front wheels.

The new Golf GTI Edition 30 will sprint to 62 mph in only 6.8 seconds (6.6 secs when equipped with DSG) before reaching a maximum of 150 mph.

Joining the dynamic tweaks is a fresh new look for the GTI Edition 30. New body-coloured side skirts are paired with a new chin spoiler for the front bumper and a body-coloured rear bumper. A subtle ‘GTI’ badge sits on the bootlid below tinted rear lights. Completing the look are a set of unique 18-inch ‘Pescara’ alloy wheels.

Inside, the GTI Edition 30 benefits from unique sports seats finished in ‘Interlagos’ cloth trim and completed with leather side bolsters and headrest. The distinctive golf ball gear knob synonymous with the Mk1 GTI also makes a welcome comeback. Elsewhere silver sill plates featuring a unique ‘Edition 30’ logo are joined by the sculpted leather GTI steering wheel complete with red stitching.

Equipment levels for the Edition 30, as on the standard GTI, are high, with ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme), six airbags, radio/CD player, 2Zone electronic climate control and twin chrome exhaust tailpipes all featured.

Just 1,500 examples of the GTI Edition 30 will be available from early January with a range of six paint colours ranging from Candy White to the searing Tornado Red. Prices for the anniversary model start at just over £22,000 for the three-door model, with a £1,330 premium for the DSG-equipped car. The GTI Edition 30 is also available with five doors for an additional £500.

The right hand drive Mk1 Golf GTI – developing a modest 112 bhp – went on sale in the UK in 1977. At the time Leo Sayer was at number one, Star Wars gripped a generation of kids, Concorde was about to take flight for the first time and Volkswagen’s new GTI cost £5,217. The Golf GTI, with its mix of a low kerb weight and a fast-revving four-cylinder engine, sharpened suspension and subtly aggressive looks, became an instant hit. By the time the Mk1 GTI was phased out in 1984 over 19,500 examples had been sold in the UK.

what about informing PVW, Golf+, EVO, Top Gear, edition 38, club GTi, newspapers, 5th gear - basically anyone in the motoring world with some sort of clout - or to sufficiently embarass VW - we all bought a car that was sold to us all as a 1500 only production run ONLY - not god knows how many more !!

Is there any actual written evidence of the production run being limited to just 1500 cars.  If there is, and it is verifiable, then all 2300 Ed30 could actually sue Volkswagen for breach of contract - either as individuals, or as a group action.  Trading Standards - preferably the Trading Standards for Milton Keynes council (because that is where VW UK is officially based) would definately offer some advice, and may even take up your case.  It is basically selling goods under "misrepresentation".

....I think you would lose your case on this question of being sold to as a 1,500 production only because you will most likely find that there is no written evidence to VW limiting their production run. A "Special Edition" is not the same as a "Limited Edition" and no Limited Edition was ever declared.

EDIT: I've just seen the VW Press Release posted above by 'Mat ed30' - I know of cases like this - It then comes down to who released the Press Release and was it an agent (consequently who would be responsible but with no positive result). Not worth all the fuss imo, and would certainly be expensive and tedious getting legal.

OK, I can understand.  But you have been here for some time, and have a reasonably hefty post count.  It isn't as though you have just registered and make up 10 posts for using the pm service.  Have you got similar post counts on the other sites such as uk-mkivs and the likes?  Or have you linked back to this thread?

At the end of the day, we all need to be able to "gauge" when to trust others, and if some choose not to, and don't get their plaques, then it could be their loss.

Regarding you point on the "overbuild" is there any way to get offical copies of VW press releases?, as I have seen lots of stories on the net about VW appologing for the 800 additional cars at the time when the Pirelli edition was confirmed earlier this year, all calling it something like a "honest mistake".

I suppose the most important bits of written info would be the official sales brochures.  I am looking at "Issue: 1 November 2006, PVW156GMK", and it makes no claims that the Ed30 is limited in any way.  However, it is fairly common for VW to release maybe three brochures per year, along with the corresponding price lists, and these can change fundamental details.  If the said brochure was given by the salesman during the pre-sale negociations, then the said brochure then forms part of the "contract of sale", and anything said in the brochure is deemed to be part of the agreed specification, UNLESS it is officially notified in writing at the time of signing the contract, or up to date of delivery.

Another option would be to write to Volkswagen Driver magazine, who are arguably the most respected Volkswagen mag out there - and they are alleged to work very closely with Volkswagen UK and Volkswagen Germany.

Avoid virtually all internet sites like the plague (as a direct reference).  Virtually all the US-based ones, particularly AudiWorld.com, VWvortex.com and Fortitude.com have repeatedly been found to publish factually incorrect info.

For the official VW press site, try www.VolkswagenMediaServices.com - anyone can have free access to view, but you need to be officially registered with them before being able to download press packs, high res images, and pdfs of general articles.  If you do find anything, let me know, because I have press registration to virtually all the Volkswagen Group brand websites, and I'll download anything you find.

Robin, read what it says in MATed30. I could be mistaken , but dont they say "LIMITED" in their headline??

T_T, vw driver had a section a few months back about these plaques are coming, so maybe some truth in it after all.

Reading that again just makes me more sure that if VW fold on this then it will definetly be the last VW I buy.

Just feels that you are having the wool pulled over yuor eyes a little bit and makes me feel rather cheated.

I think Audi will be the big benefactor in all this as I personally think I will be going back to the S3 if this is not sorted out to all us (the buyer's) satisfaction.
