Power at the wheels on Mapped Edition 30's
« on: 29 September 2008, 11:47 »
Hi All

Newbie here, been reading this forum for a few months. Some really great info around.

What I am trying to find out is the actual wheel power figures for mapped Edition 30's.  I cant seem to find much info on it, only the normal engine power figures. I am really after seeing what the losses are between the DSG and Manual cars.

Cheers in advance for any reply's.

Awesome GTI did their readouts with clutch power and wheel power.

On their RR I got 315.24bhp and 293.07whp.

Divide one by the other and you'll get a ratio used for the calc they use to go from whp to bhp

whp to bhp = 1.075

bhp to whp = 0.929

Obviously these are rough calculations based on how Awesome GTI reached their results, but they should be a good indicator for the Edition 30.

Now mine is 333bhp = 309whp.

Wow.. 309 whp from 333 bhp, that is very minimal losses, very impressive. Yours is a DSG equipped car, am I right ?

With 300 odd bhp and 300 odd lbft can Manual and DSG boxes/clutchs cope with the power without causing clutch slip/gearbox issues. Is there a limit to them both ?

I've been watching a few odd youtube clips and have seen 60 to 100 mph times of 5.5 - 6.0, does this sound right to you.

Up to me having a DSG service I'd been having some clutch slip issues. So far they haven't re-appeared, but I'm looking into uprated plates and a Quaife just to be sure.

Below is a run I did 32mph to 120mph (on the speedo) in 10 seconds.

Think they may of been mine..
Mine was recorded @ 301 @ wheels on Awesome's rollers (320bhp 362lb/ft @ Fly). But I think the wheels figure is to high if i'm honest. Either that, or the DSG gearbox has very minimal transmission loses..

Interesting stuff there.
So when manufacturers claim their BHP figures, are they at the wheels or at the flywheel?

Hurdy that is VERY impressive. Difficult to see exact MPH increments but about 5.5 60-100 which is uber quick. I had looked at the later Audi S3's but I am really not sure I need the Quattro drive train other than from standing starts etc of which I don’t tend to do anyway, but a well mapped 330 bhp S3 is more like 6 seconds 60-100 obviously down to drivetrain and weight and half a second on the road is quite a difference.

I would prefer a DSG box or should I say the other half has been banging on about getting an Auto next so it sort of suits our needs. I just wanted to check that there was no real performance lose between having a DSG box to Manual. I know you probably do lose a little more through transmission looses but the shift speed more than makes up for it.

You sound exactly like I was when I was about to order mine mate.. Didn't want to order the wrong box and when getting it have a another one with the oppisite box come whistling past you..
When I spoke to Revo, they said that the map on the DSG ED30 has the torque pulled back a little (which had me a bit annoyed ) but when on the rollers, mine kicked out 360lb/ft on 2 seperate occasions, so if that's holdng back, i'd love to see what it would be like if they didn't...  The reliability issues/rumours seem to of been squashed with a number of seriously high powered cars running safely with no issues on DSG.
Mine has just Revo map and full TBE and Hurdy (the mod nutter) quite a few bits more (Fuel pump, FMIC, Intake, amoungst others ) and both seem to be running mint at min..
Like you say though, even if the DSG did have a very slight disadvantage in transmission losses, it's more than made up through the shifts..
What car you got at min mate?

With a DSG you shouldn't have any more transmission losses than with a manual. The DSG is different to a standard auto and doesn't use a torque convertor - so doesn't suffer the same losses.
