Mk2 16V - h plate - 131,000 miles - red!

It's sitting in a friends back garden and has been lying there for 9 months and hasn't moved! It is MOT'd till end of August. The paintwork is as dull as dishwater and the seats are covered in moss. On the plus side, the engine turned over at the first time of asking and ran sweet. Gettin it for 450 notes so can't be bad.

Learned to drive in a mk1 5 speed (1979) and owned an e reg 8v for four years about 8 years ago. thought it was about time I got back into the swing and gave me something to do at weekends as well (restoration wise).

So....lets see what problems you lot can predict before i get this thing brought to her new home. Am hoping the engine is dog tired so I can chuck in a two litre overbore from TSR or the like. I will start you off - REAR CALIPERS!

Rear calipers change them for new MK3 ones. They bolt stright one and have hand brake system built in.

gearbox might need looking at if your uprating the engine but you might just have to check that it will work.

If your changing the engine then no need to worry about the one it has. If its been sitting then the tyres might be a bit funny. Also bushes coud be a bit dodgy and might need replacing.

Also check for rust. If theres a lot then i wouldn't get it cos body work is expensive to fix and replace when compared to everything else.

Obviously the inside will need to be looked at if the seats are mouldy. Bin them and get some buket seats and get a new carpets.
