Laquer... why can't i get it to shine??

Right I must admit I'm a novice with paints and I'm having issues with laquer that dosen't ever want to shine!! When I paint I sand in between each coat and then apply 3 or 4 coats (sanded in between) of laquer but I never seem to get it shining like my original paint!! I have some cutting compound and quality polish but this dosnet seem to make much difference...
what am i doing wrong?? or can anybody give me some tips on shinyness!

what lacquer you using mate? what make? and you are priming and prepping properly right?

I didnt sand between coats when i did mine, aslong as you dont leave it to long between, like over 30mins you should be better off, but i know what you mean because i have a run or two and i practiced flatting it back and then polishing on a spare panel and it doesn't look anywhere near the same!

Either way I'd imagine a rotary would help you no end!

IIRC you can use VERY VERY fine grit wet and dry to remove shallow scratches etc. etc. but it has to be rotary mopped afterwards. It would be mega easy to go straight through to the base coat with too much pressure though!

right i have the answer just tried as well so going to do my whole car at the weekend. (got a bit of orange peel from my respray!)

use 1500-2000 grit paper with soap and water take it back a bit and then get cutting compound and use a buffer to shine it, keep going with the cutting compound until you get the shine and then polish it. did it on my filler cap and it came out good so the cars getting the full works at the weekend!

Some real good tips on expertvillage about car paint stuff, but the "Hi, I'm Doug, Blah Blah Blah" gets boring, reall quick.
