Windscreen Wipers
« on: 27 September 2008, 15:26 »
Anyone else experienced this happening on there Mk5?
Somtimes when I drive home the wipers are slightly raised (as if the wiper switch has been set to auto) the steering wheel switch is in the off position. When I get home and switch off the ignition they revert back to the original position (flush and hidden). This means when I am driving they are slightly raised.

Any ideas?

They are programmed to do that so the rubber on the wiper blade face is facing the right way, ready to start wiping. Its the little things lol!

when I had my windscreen replaced, the Autoglass guy put one of the wipers back on the wrong notch on the spindle so it sat to high in it's "standby" position and was really noticeable when driving so I moved down one when I got home. If you put it too low it will bang on the plastic trim when it "parks" so it has to be installed just right.

I've only noticed it when I've used the wipers eg to wash the screen. When I get home, I notice the wipers shift a little when I turn off the ignition. Just figured it was going back into 'park' position.

The only thing I can't seem to do is get the wipers to park on the windscreen by pressing the wiper stalk down momentarily with the ignition off and with the keys in and out.

To get them to park you have to turn on ignition, turn off ignition, then press the wiper stalk down. They should park up then.

But, and call me stupid if you wish, aren't the blades in this up position causing both drag and wind noise when driving? Also this dosn't allways happen (somtimes they stay in the Stelth postioin!)

Now I think I really do have a wiper problem!
The wipers seem to be all over the place, on Monday (Leeds) I was driving with the wipers set to intermittent. The wipers were going all the time, in fact they were going really fast, as if I had the wipers on the fastest position. When I stopped at a traffic light, normally the wipers stop too, the wipers kept on going at the fast speed. I switched off the wipers as it stopped raining, and when it started to intermittently rain again I switched the wipers back on to intermittent setting. This time they worked correctly, when I stopped the car the wipers stopped and when I set off again they went back to intermittent wipe.

My question is this could I have a faulty sensor? Why do the wipers go really fast when I am not? Will VAG be able to pick up the fault?  Any ideas, apart from the obvious Stealer Visit?

vag com (VCDS) should be able to find a problem, you can check which parts are working too by using the logs too

The wipers vary their speed wipe according to both road speed and readings from the rain sensor.  Ever had a new screen?
