Let me throw some spanners here. I have a friend who is 18 years old. His dad used to drive a Gold Opel Astra GTC. Daddy needed to go overseas. The son was left behind and told the kid he could drive the Opel.

A few days into driving the Opel school and back (and I must admit considering the power he has he is extremely responsible and never I repeat never speeds hence why daddy trusted him with the car) he came in saying he had been stopped three times in two days. Told to get out the car and stand against the boot while the traffic officer checked his drivers.

In one week he came and told he had been stopped over 4 times in the Astra. Doing absolutely nothing illegal. He has never been fined and will never be. Red Robin. It seems you are suggesting that just because you are younger (i.e Joes age) in a nice car you should be stopped over and over again?

I think not. Thats very unfair.

Its perfectly fair. If your not 'fitting' for the car, it may be stolen, uninsured, untaxed etc etc. I have no quarrel with being randomly pulled over, i would hope if some little scrote knicked my car he too would get randomly pulled over, i would get my motor back and he would get a major wrist slap.

I have to agree with Joe. If they want to stop you then go for it. When you are stopped continuosly and treated like dirt then I think it is fair to get a negetive opinion of the traffic cops.

see above

Older people need to get out of the mindset that teenagers/boy racers cannot drive. We have access to far more electronics and our school systems and what we are educated on has changed vastly. We are different to the teenagers of 20 years ago. My school has had ten years without a single road accident that claimed a death.

rubbish, 99% of the time i see a car hooning down my road its some little 17 year old in his clio thinking he or shes the man. I know how i was when i was 17, thought nothing could touch me in my sh!tty mk4 escort.

Old people are more prone to thinking they are better drivers and I honestly consider older people to be the boy racers. Not us. Why? BEcause we have all played Grand Turismo (Just an example) and all know that if you come around that corner at 120 miles per hour you will crash and die. Whereas older people think because they have been driving for over 50 years they are invincible.

Funniest statement of the year!!!
Yeah, i learned on gt4 where when i crash my car just bounces back onto the road and continues to scream off at 100mph.
Grand theft auto also exists, so its definitely right to go car jacking is it?

If you have proof that most accidents are caused by teenagers then I will gladly shake hands.

Pretty much every road safety statistic or survey, ever, prooves this

oh yeah, im 21 btw, hardly a road safety book toting granddad

Need to watch out for the sneaky unmarked 3.2 V6 Vectras.  :smug:

Yes you do!! Drove back 200miles from down south yesterday... got to my home stretch yesterday at about 1am  (luckily I was taking it easy!) Had one of those coppa vectras come right up behind me.. tailgating me for a good 2miles!! Jacka$$!

Then overtook me by cutting across and narrowly avoiding an on coming car... Its kn0b coppers like this that are going to tempt me to visit HPA

Yeah your probaly right Phil. But the cutting across me was just totally uncalled for... and the worst bit is that he was looking at me whilst he over too!!

Conducting a retinal scan no doubt!

....

Normal practice is to come up close to check your plate for ANPR and then drop back to text book distance and position. Literally continuous tailgating is not on!! Neither is cutting in unless it's to slow or stop you.
