he said that was for Castrol synthetic oil ?, so im not sure, but im guseeing it wont be alot more if its not the longlife stuff
Some garages use Castrol Magnatec oil for time/distance servicing so get confirmation the the oil to be used is the correct Castrol oil.

So this is ok for VW then ?, i want long life in the car but if they put the wrong stuff in and it goes wrong surely thats vw's fault ?

Well if it was me and I know TT agrees, only use the long life oil in the GTi regardless of service regime.

iirc the Magnatec is semi-syntheticbut not 100% positive as I only use the castrol edge 5W-30 stuff.

Another option is to take in your own oil especially is you are a member or know someone who is at Costco. They have been selling 3x1 litre packs of the castrol edge 5W-30 for around £12. You will need around 4.6l for an oil change.

castrol 5W-30 is the latest long life oil from castrol that's  VW504/507 approved. Your dealer may have bottles of the earlier Castrol version, the name I can't remember offhand.

The oil we will put in is Castrol SLX 111 5W-30, it is the longlife oil but we have to set the dash differently for time distance servicing

Kind regards
