« on: 23 September 2008, 23:09 »
Evening All,

Just stumbled across this site.
I bought a Mk2 1991 Golf Gti 1.8 8v Last week as a run around.
Its a 4 door in black, great condtion, really pleased with it!
Thought I'd join up to the relative forum
Im From Swindon by the way, so if there's anyone from around here, and you see me, Give me a beep

Anyway's, as im new to this Golf ownership, is there anything I should watch out for? Or any ownership Tips?

Cheers

Peter

Welcome (although I only registered today I have had 4 mk2 golfs 2 were 8v's) the only things that I had recurantly go wrong at some point on all of mine were silly electrical faults.
Otherwise the heater matrix's are a weak point but a pig of a job so only do it if it blows, other than that just keep an eye on hoses under the bonnet as they will be old now and possibly starting to perish.
I could spend a couple of hours listing the places to watch for rust but they are all fairly visible places, just cast an eye behind the plastic wheel arch trims and the tailgate handle as they can hide some.
I just realised that sounds a bit doom and gloom but they are great fun, I can't think of anything else I'd rather buy that's more fun for the money.
