MK2 Fron Seat Collapse

I've got an MK2 4door 8valve GTI , there are 2 controls at the front of the seat on the drivers side, 1 does the forward/backward adjustment and I belive the other adjusts the height of the base , however , when ever I pull the lever on the left (base height adjustment) the front left hand side of the seat plummets towards the floor and the righthand side stays put ?

Any help on how to resolve this would be  wonderfull , thanks in advance

There's a toothed lever on either side of the seat that moves outward when the handle is moved, it might be that a spring has broken that pulls it back in place.

It may be the spring rod that goes through the lower part on the guides, is faulty/broken from the spot weld to the upper section.

Should be easy to get just a base and swap foam and cloth over though.
