mk2 gti
« on: 14 May 2004, 12:30 »
Hello people,

I live in Luton, and have just bought my first, mk2 golf gti, black, sitting on azev a's.  Im a new golf nut and now I know what the fuss is all about, awesome cars  ;D .

Let the questions begin,

I have booked my car into a bodyshop but need some advice. The plastic arch is hanging off, there are no rivets there and looks as though it was originally glued on by the previous owner. I dont want it to come of again, how do I tell them to fix it on, permnantely. Any advice?

The door handles have no lock barrels and so i suspect, these are the "chinese handles" or 5 door golf rear handles, the handles are broken lol, what do you think i should replace them with, would mk3 handles go straight on, has full clifford alarm keyless entry, hence no locks.

The door and panel strips running along the bottom middle of the car, shall i keep these or remove them? Im not to sure how this would look as it looks as though they run with the lines of the rest of the bodykit and blend in with the arches, bumpers etc.

What else should i consider doing whilst the car is in the bodyshop, getting full respray job so dont want to have it done and find out, shuld have done this or that.

Any help would be appreciated.

re the arches, is the car lowered?? because the previous owner might of rolled the arches for more clearance, so there would only be mounting holes for the rivets at tthe bottom.

Thanks for the kind comments  :P

TBH i bought the car like that  ;D saved myself a lot of hardwork, I did have a look under the rear arches as the platic trim isnt stuck on anymore and the arch looks like its been rolled quite a lot.  I dont get no rubbing whatsoever but tbh you need to ask someone else, as i didnt do the work myself so wouldnt know how much rolling was needed. BTW my rear azev's are wider but I think you will need a fair bit of rolling/cutting etc.
