A tissue wrecked my air con....
« on: 22 September 2008, 20:32 »
Yes apparently so, a tissue has been sucked into the system and wrecked the pollen filter.

I dropped the car off today becuase I have a strange humming sound coming from the air-con. I got a call this afternoon to say they have fixed it and the bill is going to be over £200.

question is, can they fix the car without my authorisation? I never said go to ahead with the repairs.

Also the car is still under warranty, do you think I should have to pay? It's an 06 GTi with 14k miles.

Like it wasnt bad enough having to drive round in a gay soft-top beetle all day....

I wouldnt want to pay - especially if they didnt inform me there would have been a cost and not covered under warranty.

If you knew the cost you could have got it done elsewhere cheaper

How can you get a tissue in your pollen filter :undecided: I thought the air intakes for the aircon were covered by a fine grill anyway :undecided:

I asked them this, I didnt know they had a grill but it makes sense to me. They didnt call me back so I'm hoping when I go in the morning they won't try and bill me. I'll refuse to pay and see what happens

Well I've had endless issues with this dealer before when they used to be VW/Audi so I should have expected this!

My S3 was there for 46 days once!

look i know the gti is a damn fine car but did you really have to put your love rag into the air con!!

seriously tho, how the hell does it cost £200 just to remove a bit of tissue?

Isnt the whole point of the filter to stop things like tissues from buggering up the system?

Well it took some very blunt discussions with the service guy and then a quick convo with the manager and they agreed to cover it under warranty.

Still charged me 12 quid to put a new brakelight bulb in though!

Is this typical VW service?!!

Glad to hear you got a result.

I have found VW dealers to be a real mixed bag in terms of quality of service but have built up a good relationship with my local dealer now (they are less than 1 1/2 miles away from hoem which helps) and now they will always go out of there way to help me.

Popped in to ask a question about some parts last week and get some more screenwash and they just gave me the bottle for free, I know it costs them peanuts but I went away happy.
