Exhaust Rubber

Hey guys,

Fitted a new backbox on my car yesterday but its heavier than my standard one. Just wondering if replacing with another original one would do the job to hold it? Not sure if the fact the other one is 18 years old has weakened it?

Its just hanging a bit too low compared to what the old one was. Any other tips?

new original one should do the job, might be that the hangers need adjusting.

if not you can get polyeurethane ones on ebay and the usual polyflex bush companies, just cost a wee bit more but they'll no move about as much

nice volksbits exhasut mate same as mine.

They hang low from factory mate. thats volksbits for ya! I used about 20 plastic zip ties to hold it firmly in place. Now its held up nicely and doesnt move at all.

I've added a few cable ties to hold my exhaust up and stop it banging on the rear beam... quick and cheap, does the job. I found the original rubbers perish quickly, especially if u have a heavy back box. I know some ppl use jubilee clips too.

i need cable ties to assist my centre box mount rubber... the powerflow system hangs low in the middle which means the tailpipe doesnt sit level....

or purchase a couple of heavy duty zaust rubbers:
893 253 147 D - heavy duty zaust rubber - £  5.09

replaces the figure 8 type rubber on the rear silencer and the one at the back of the backbox i.e. not the 2 o'ring rubbers that are next to each other at the front of the backbox.  Though I guess they would work there too?

Ahh sweet thanks for that mate! Take it thats the VW Part number? Would I still be able to get one from VW themselves?

i havnt got a volksbits exhaust but a mild stainless steel backbox which hits the bodywork which tyresales couldnt sort even for free

They're a company, they're there to make a profit... why would they sort it for free?

yep thats the vag part number
