Magnex exhaust
« on: 21 September 2008, 15:11 »
Hi guys,

I have a back box and middle box for a mk3 golf gti 16v, just wondering what links pipes I will need? Also do I need magnex ones or will the standard ones do? Final question is will the magnex system fit on with normal exhuast clamps or do they need special ones? I realise magnex are no more so will have to hunt around if I need the parts.

Cheers.

can use all normak bits but you WILL need the magnex relocation bracket that comes with them, do you have this, im guessing not as you get all the clamps in the kit too, i just sold a kit for 40 quid as i didnt need mine, i had my box custom fitted and they removed the hangers and relocated them that way, if you dont have the correct magnex kit as iv mentioned here you will have to do what iv done, somewhere like a powerflow dealer will sort it for you

That's great, sorry it took me a while to reply. I do have the magnex kit, can't believe you sold it for £40, thats almost as much as I paid for my new magnex back box! So I'm guessing its not the simplest job to fit the back box then? What about the middle box, is that fairly straight forward? Am I going to need to go to a specialist?

you can easily fit it yourself matey....i had to have mine done at a specialist as my middle box was a non VW item so it wouldnt fit the magnex, as iv said before i just had the system made up to the cat for me in st/st etc and did away with middle box

and yeah, got 40 for the fitting kit on the bay, cant buy them now so pretty rare and everyone who sells the back boxes second hand hardly ever sell them with the fitting kits! hence making it desirable for certain people

I would take it on but the present exhaust is rattling whenever I put my foot down, which is quite often as its a valver! Some cowboy in the south west didn't realise that an 8v middle box wouldn't fit my valver dispite me telling him beforehand and him assuring me he knew what he was doing. He eventually did realise but not till my rusted middle and back box were lying in pieces on his workshop floor and I had no M.O.T. so didn't leave me with many options!

Took it back three times to get rid of the rattle and its still there so I have given up on him! I think he may have tried to fit the exhaust with the same clamps he was using for the 8v....anyone know if they're different and would that explain the rattling?
