shakey/wobblies on 16v
« on: 13 May 2004, 21:34 »
as been using 16v full time till mk4 fully repaired, i noticed today that theres a slight judder on the front (not during braking), now i went and had front wheels balanced as this is what it feels like (manual steering, twitchy elfty/right wobbles) , but driving home from work this was still the same, ive checked the track rod ends and steering rack and all feels tight and ok, so what other component maybe worn etc for this to feel like unbalanced wheels?? (not brakes as all new) only started today how anoying!!

I've got a similar shake on mine, it's definately bushes, think it might be on the steering rack...

should really buy one of them bugpacks and change the lot. ::)

are you sure the front disc's arent just warped

i also have the shakes in mine but its caused by warped disc's

simple test is, does it do first thing in the moring when the disc's are stone cold?

Try swapping the front wheels for the rears for starters.
If still got a problem then check the wishbones and driveshafts for damage, or could just be very worn wishbone bushes.
Another thought, check the driveshaft bolts and nuts are tight.

I have seen worn inner cv joints giving a steering vibration when accelerating.

just jacked up the mk2 today all seem ok 'off load' but there play up and down on the wheel (and no its not wheel bearings!!) it seem to be the top of the shocke rthat may be casuing the probs, ive heard there bearings in ther for your leftr/right rotation of the struts, when jacked up load there well fooked (top cups where springs sit) and when under load steering all notchy, but not when off load (jacked up))
so im gonna find what bearings ther eon as this is 1st call

if any one knows bearing size let me know as i work in a firm that has every bearing you can think off available so maybe some the same for a replacement if not ill buy some!!
