hiya

trying to remove g/box from a mk2 1300, the back of the driveshaft keeps catchin on the edge of the flywheel, thus not letting me get g/box.

Is there something i'm doing wrong??

Any help would greatly be appreciated

Cheers guys

Ok i removed the gearbox on mine 2 weeks ago ands its a b*tch. Take out both drivshafts. I took the 2 bolts out of the supension on both sides to lower the wish bone.

Remove the engine mounts at the front and the 2 gearbox one. The one on the gearbox remove it from the gearbox and bodywork cos it will get in the way. You should be able to move the engine and this should be supported either from the top or bottom.

The best way is to turn the gearbox 90 degrees towards the front of the car and then pull it out. The box needs to come out level.

Also if you have a hynes manual read read it then read it again. Then if still no luck use every machanics favourite tool. A BIG HAMMER to tweak the movement of the box.

Good luck

P.S.

The gearbox is VERY HEAVY so be prepared for some pain when it comes free of the engine.

Ok first off are you taking the whole gearbox out, as you would if doing a clutch change, or are you taking half thee box out to expose the gears inside.

Also why can't you get the d/side d/shaft off. If its cos you cannot get to the spline bolts i found that if you disconnect the suspension of d/side then use a jack to jacck the wishbone up then you can access the spline bolts easy.

Also in the book its says you have to disconnect the exhaust manifold so that the engine can move more. Have you done this? if not it may allow more jigle room.

Can you remove the whole engine then you will have much more room, i couldn't do this as didn't have the lifting tools but would have been easier

Or beat the sh1t out of it until the whol thing come apart.

Good luck

Right so you cannot remove the d/shaft from d/side as the splines are nackered? Obviously u have removed it from the hub. I think cos of the way the gearbox has to move it will be real hard, as you know, to get it out with the d/shaft still attacked to the box.

What i would try to do is get the d/shaft out as i cannot think of how the box is goona come away with it still attached. try to get a hacksaw blade in and cut some groves in so that you can use a screw driver to undo them. You way need to beat the screw driver in before trying to turn it. As you will know from taking the p/side one out they are done up tight so an impact screw driver might be better to start them off.

you could also try hammering in a larger size spline tool but this could just mess the tool up.

If you say the d/shaft is buggered is it buggered so much your replacing it. If so cut the thing off and deal with the spline bolts when they can be access better.

Good luck
