CF grille arrived, small crack [pics]
« on: 19 September 2008, 21:07 »
My carbon fibre badgeless grille arrived this evening! I was going to go out and install it straight away but noticed a small crack on the far side. The package it came in was very well protected with a large padded outer box and the grille in bubblewrap and a sleeve in another box in the padding. For this reason I doubt it was damaged in transport. I was very careful removing it from the packaging so I doubt I cracked it. The only other option is that it could have been cracked at the factory. Should I contact the store I bought it from or could I repair it? The crack is pretty small and in a spot that isn't essential, but I'm worried it could crack in further if I don't deal with it. The front and a lot of the sides is made of carbon fibre and parts of the back are made of abs plastic, so maybe some sort of glue/strong adhesive could repair it? Could the CF experts help me out on this one?

The grille itself:

The crack. I couldn't get the camera to focus very well on it though.

Any ideas?

lad says its plastic on the back if you read it.

regardless of how well it was packed it's a postal insurance shout for sure. they are a pain in the arse though (from experience)

i am aware of what he wrote, but he still says other bits are CF, when the close ups are not of carbon fibre imo, its just all plastic with a CF effect sprayed on

it'll be a plastic piece with a carbon fibre wrap. it's easier and cheaper, but has none of the benefits a genuine carbon fibre piece would give.

carbon grilles are only fo' sho' anyway.

All im saying is there is no real carbon weave on that grill, its purely a piece of plastic with a spray effect on it, he doesnt need an expert in CF weave repair as it doesn't contain an ounce of carbon fibre

I would first get in touch with the seller and include pics with your communication.
