Info on corrados guys?
« on: 19 September 2008, 15:02 »
Hi guys...

I know the only answer is to try them all for my self...

Ive currently got a mk3 16v anniversary

Ive always wanted a corrado, and Il be starting a graduate job in the spring, so I am thinking of changing to one in the new year...

So, according to parkers.co.uk, the 2.0 16v corrado is 9.0secs to 60, where as my mk3 is only 8.0?

15 less horse power too!?

Anyone ever had both to comparE?

Im not ruling out the VR6 corrado too? are they really THAT much more expensive to run?
(insurance not a problem)

Thanks guys...

(ive read alot on the corrado.net forum but I wanted to know if any1 has advice compared with a mk3 gti)

2.0 16v is only 138 bhp but a quick cam swap for the ones from a 1.8 will bring you up to 150ish (Just done this in mine). It will feel quicker than the MKIII due to being lower to the ground in the seat and the handling is way way way better. MPG will be about 33 and they often suffer with idle problems which can be a pain to sort.

VR6 is much quicker and a bit thirstier, group 20 insurance too!

Insurance isnt much of a worry...

its £550 a year for my mk3,
quotes for 16v corrado £600, and £650 for vr6

so not too bad there.

I dont reckon id do more than 4-5000 miles a year in it either.

The cam swap sounds interesting?

does it cost alot? is it a garage only job?
and what sorta difference to the performance does it make?

Thanks

If your only doing 4500 -5000 a year its got to be the VR6, a no brainer.

Her indoors had a G60 cracking engine sounded mad.Handled like a go-kart, nice seating position wasnt that impressed with build quality on the interior trim etc not  as good as mk2/3 of same era Water based paint is pants as well.I have a copy of the must have Robert Bentley if anyone wants to buy it.If I had to buy another would be the VR6 wihtout a shadow of a doubt and a Storm if I could find one..
