alternator question
« on: 13 May 2004, 14:43 »
Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, my 83y ragtop GLi (1.6) is in need of a new alternator and as management has been good enough to clear the funds I am going to be brave and attempt the job myself!!!! The question is: What effect does fitting a different rated alternator have? I currently have a 45A bosch and wondered whether it was worth fitting a 55A or 65A bosch, what with the age of the car and things getting a little tired I wondered whether the higher current ones would charge the battery faster or just kill it?

Thanks in advance

Michael

No probs, the alternators are self regulating and if the battery goes t1ts up, it was on it's way out anyhow.
