Ahhhh - the DSG equivalent of the BSOD - "Blue Screen Of Death"!

This issue was reported over on one of the TT sites (I think!).
Unfortunately, emergency braking it is one of the very few occasions which "confuses" the DSG. Under normal braking, the box will have time to go down through the gears, and eventually select 1st. However, if the front wheels get locked, or rapidly stop, the box will just hang in 6th, or whatever gear it was in. If it hangs in any of the "even" gears, 6th, 4th or 2nd - then these are all controlled from the inner, smaller clutch pack - and the car can not start from rest with this smaller clutch. It has to use the larger outer clutch (which controls 1st, 3rd, 5th and reverse).
Sometimes the box is able to sort itself out after what seems a lengthy delay, though in reality it is probably only about 2 seconds. Other times, the box just throws its teddy out the cot, and refuses to play. The only solution is to put the stick in park, turn off the engine, get out and lock the car for a short while, get back in, and it will be then OK - the DSG version of a "cold reboot".

Did you get any odd looking gear readouts in the dash?
