back wheels have vertical movement.
« on: 12 May 2004, 21:03 »
 Hello all.

My back wheels have vertical movement. From looking at the car from behind, the wheels are NOT vertical but angled from the top down to the bottom. Similar to how ralley car wheels are. I don't think the wheels bearings are at fault as there is no horizontal movement. Any ideas on possible faults? I'm taking the wife to Sky in June over a 3 hour drive so need to get this sorted asap.

Thanks.

Green.

Sounds like there's some bushes missing to me - the rear is quite complex

Who lowered the car ???

I lowered the car myself over 1 year ago. It'sonly started showing some vibrations this last month.

No bushes are missing. Perhaps the bolt at bottom needs tightening?

Any ideas?

jack the car up and see if theres any movement......
if there is somthings worn....... if its solid.... then there is nothing wrong........

if your on about the camber of the wheel which is where the botton of the wheels tilt outwards......
the wheel will never be 100% vertical! they have negative camber to help handeling! too much and the tyres wear on the insides!!!!!!!

the camber on the rear wheels is set when they make the car and cannot be adjusted because theres nothing to adjust....

the front camber can be adjusted by buying strut to hub bolts which have movement in them!
this is the correct way of doing it.........
there is another way by adjusting the bottom ball joint bolts but i dont recomend this as excessive presure could be put on the joint and may lead in failure!
this may be because vw dont use this way they use the hub to strut bolts!!!!!
