refurbing bbs alloys need advice!!
« on: 14 September 2008, 00:10 »
i brought a set of bbs alloys for £50  and now want to refurb them, im after a mirror sort of finish on the wheels :smug:. I went out and brought a dremel for the job. i know it takes alot of time and work but im willing to do it since i have set of 5 dont need 2 be worried about getting them back on car etc. Only i cant find any tutorials or guides on how to do it/what cutting/sanding acessories used or genral techniques
heres the wheels look worse when close lol

my plan is to take them back to bare metal and polish them up to mirror finish and then lacquer or protect them some how!

Great price there mate, but i think i would pay to have them shot blasted as the rear of the wheel looks like it needs a lot of work.

Can you even get a mirror finish on those? It's going to be flipping hard work to do by hand/dremmel.

They'll need blasting, welding (curbing filled with aluminium) before you even start the polishing process.

If you're DIY'ing it then just go with a nice painted finish, i.e. like new, it's still hard work to get them spot on, but at least you can do the filling & paint yourself. :afro:

If you REALLY want to have them mirror polished go to a proffesional. :smug:

If you want to ignore me & do it anyway, you'll need a polishing kit!

im considering getting the same alloys as these. theyre in slightly better condition but i would like to get a better finish on them. havent got a clue on the process involved. whats this "blasting"? lol. how much does it cost and would i need to do anything else to get a 'shiney' finish?

thanks

ive got borbets, been quoted £40 per wheel for a painted finish......£50 for a mirror finish, (pretty much a standard price) im a bit of a retard and have decided to mirror polish them myself :nerd:

if you do pay someone, make sure they have a good rep!!!

If those wheels where brought to me i would avise you to forget the fully polished idea as there is many many hours work to get inside the spokes on bbs rims (would amount to loads more than £50 a wheel!)
what about just repainting the centres and polishing the lip/dish ? this is achievable by yourself or i do it for about £25 a rim
