spent a bomb on paint help needed!!!

right then guys i've done the usual daft lad thing and gone to buy the expensive stuff after full weeks work and full weeks partying! I thought i'd go for about 3 litres of laquer (mixed up ready to go) to give me about 4 coats, but instead i came out with 2 pack laquer, the dangerous 1! is this ok i'm going to be spraying in a double garage with a dual filter mask? i really want to keep the garage door down though??? huh

plus i bought 5 litres of laquer (because it was 2 quid more than 3 litres), then  2.5 litres of hardener, and aother 5 litres of thinner to go with my 3 litres of base coat! coming to a grand total of £230.87!!!!!

I'm going to pick the base coat up later as its being mixed now shall i get them to swap the laquer back over and get standard 1 pack and only 2.5 litres, and then mix it with 2.5 litres of thinner?Huh

any help welcome as my pockets are empty

The 2k lacquer that you have will be far superior to  the 1K, the quantities that you have seem to be about right for the job,.
To spray 2k lacquer, you really should use an fresh air fed mask and NOT a respirator, the air fed mask has a compressed air feed from an external source, creating positive pressure within the mask, making it impossible for isocyanates to enter, having said that, I know quite a few people in the trade that only use a respirator, and have been doing for many years, as it seems, with no adverse effects, I would never recommend it, but I'll think you'l see what I'm saying..
If you paint with the garage door down, within 30 seconds you will not be able to see what your doing, due to thick over spray, you must have some sort of extraction  going on, which leads to the next problem, If you use the 2K, expect everything in the immediate area to get covered with overspray! that can only be eliminated by claying, or polishing a sure fire way to  really upset people.,
I would seriously consider trying to do a bit of a deal with a bodyshop that can paint it and bake it for you...

Hire a sided gazebo and find a mate with enough room and not many cars etc around.,  will be better than a garage any day.  Does it not have a back door on it?

cheers for help guys, yh i realised i'd get the overspray but is it reduced with hvlp guns? thom89 i bet the air feed mask is going to cost an arm and a leg to buy ? I'v not got any pproper sort of extraction either ! oh well you only live once (even if it is a bit short! )

I've just rang a mate who's dad has a full spraying booth so i'm going to see if he'll just spray the base coat and laquer over my primer! this will see how good a mate he is !

definatly no go doing it myself in the garage though???

Yep, air fed is very expensive, your biggest problem would be air delivery to the mask, and spraygun at the same time! unlikely that your compressor would ever be up to the job, unless you run a 3phase jobbie!
HVLP guns still create huge amounts of overspray!! the old style gravity, and suction feed weren't much worse!
Many bodyshops are struggling for cashflow at the moment, use it to your advantage!  If possible get someone round to look at your car, just to see if its up for them to paint, you wouldnt want to turn up with what they consider to be a nightmare..

ok thanks thom, i'd be able to borrow my neighbors compressor aswell if i ended up getting an air ged mask but what sort of price would i be looking at? Keeping this in mind i'd probably only use 2 pack twice in the next few years? would a second hand air fed of ebay like the one i linked do for about £60?
