Busy weekend, quick question
« on: 12 September 2008, 23:12 »
after spending mega dollar on the golf recently, i am intent on tidying it up. i have a quick question regards rear seats... (and yes i did do a search)

currently the rear bench has water marks on the fabric. can i take the covers off and put them in my washing machine? if so how do i remove the covers? also what temp should they be washed at? i dont want them to shrink!

thanks

I don't think a semi will give the same results

Might it be easier to hire a steam cleaner thingy, or buy some decent fabric cleaning foam (which lifts stains off the fabric)???

If you do go the washing machine route, see if your machine has got a "hand wash" setting, or failing that the wool setting. And don't risk going above 30 degrees.

oh ok... sounds like a bit of a chore removing the actual covers then...

Take the seats out, and hand wash them with a bowl full of hot water, and half a cup of persil, saturate and scrub the seats, and the blast the residue off with a power washer, stand  them upright for a couple of days to drain and dry.. they will come out mint!

However...I decided to fully strip the front seats on my Mk1 Clipper resto. Easy to strip, but a total bi7ch to rebuild! But, I found that a 30 degree wash was fine with normal washing powder and a bit of vanish/brightener. Mrs wasn't too pleased when the machine made odd noises on the next wash!!!

Apparently dishwashers make good part cleaners too

i have just used the old vax carpet upright with attachment on the golf and corsa seats,

the CRAP that came out of them was unbelieveable

left the cosa running for 20 minutes with the heater on full, seats dry,

golf ones currently drying with the garage heater blowing into the car

I would never advise removing covers to  put in a washing machine, 20 year old stitching can get delicate, and you might end up with more than your bargained for
