MK3 Starting Problem - Please Help !!!!
« on: 12 September 2008, 15:38 »
Dear All,

Got a problem with my brothers Mk3 ABF 16v.  It started a few months back with the car randomly cutting out, to cut a long story short he bought an S3 and the car is home with me for the time being.  It sat on the drive for about 4 weeks, then one day whilst I was running it on the drive it cut out ... and has not started since.  Initially I changed the coil as there was no spark coming out of the coil, no difference, the engine is definately getting fuel, but just kept turning over without firing. I then changed the ECU relay for a GSF item, the ABF had 5 pins the GSF had 4 pins, that didn't work ... I have now bought a genuine VW ABF ECU relay, have fitted that, and having just charged the battery, the car won't even turn over ?? I checked the fuses, the pump is "buzzing up" .... Just scratching my head at the moment - could it be the crank sensor ?? The problem now is that the car won't even turn over so I don't even know whether the geniuine relay has cured the matter.

Can anyone be of any assistance ? I'd be very very grateful.

Regards,

Gareth

Immobiliser issue? Has it a factory or aftermarket alarm/immobiliser? This may well be cutting various power sources as part of it's anti theft bit??  :undecided:
