help diagnostic needed
« on: 12 September 2008, 00:15 »
hi all not been here for a while but i know where to come if i need help :)
my mk3 has a problem but other than going to the local vw stealer no one close has the equipment for doing a diagnostic on my old girl
problem :
if your looking at the inlet manifold where the accelerator cable attaches (throttle valve) if you turn on the ignition, the servo there rocks back and forth as if it won't reset? the result of this is when you start the car without accelerator it stalls, in the morning you have to sit for 2 mins helping it to run with the peddle until it warms slightly
other problems that seem to have started at the same time as this is while driving, if you put your foot down it holds back until you lift your foot slightly then its like a power band it just kicks back like old times
any ideas on anyone that can look at it cheap ie diagnostic, i love this car and want to get it going well again
what do you think relay problem ? or worse
i live in hertfordshire (stevenage) will drive to see someone with the car no problem just need to get it sorted within a decent distance ofc
pm me or answer here
thanks in advance of any help people

Sounds like dirty throttle body symtoms, Try giving it a clean, costs nothing.

did that and had a slight difference to the tickover revs but still stalled when cold and  so i took it to my local garage who stuck it on thier diagnostics machine and it came up with a fault but because thier software was for newer models of golfs it wouldn't show what the exact fault was so i need a diagnostic machine that is compatible for the agg mk3 8v golf gti i think

did they give you the actual code for the fault? but i would say first clean the throttle body and then buy a temp sender...
the problem with diagnostic machines is unless they clear old codes they will allways show! I know a few places that will read them but not erase them! you could try ebay for a code reader/resetter for £30-40
