My little old Golf seems to misfire hugely in the wet and once it cuts out, it wont start for a good few hours, with our lovely British climate makes it a total deathtrap to drive. So far I have replaced the Lambda, Distributor cap, leads, spar plugs and Manifold Air Pressure Sensor (as this came up as a fault on a diagnosis machine) and yet STILL does it. No garage can find a fault or be bothered in looking for it as it is too time consuming or not doing it at the time.
I have heard from other forums or posts it could be something to do with throttle body, distributor, or coil packs.
Another (maybe related or unrelated) problem with it is that it also backfires quite a lot decelerating and when i drop the clutch in low revs has a tendancy to drop below the tick-over rpm and pick up again or just cut out. - Maybe related or maybe just another expensive problem lol.

Any contributions or help will be massively appreciated!!!!!
Help meeee someone!!!!

  • Back in a Mk3...
i would guess its a cracked coil.... for the wet problem and hopefully this can cure the stalling too (but next I would try the temp sensor as this controls fueling)

I'd definately check the temp sensor- just done mine and it's like a different car...for 8 quid you can't go wrong!
