induction kit?

i've a K+N on mine, for sound, it wont go faster and it wont go slowere and with an abf... you can put a carbon with a tube being fed by an artic from Iceland running beside you and you wont get 2bhp.... but the noise is lovely.

Sorry to hijack but I got a k&n induction kit in my 16v GTi and the engine is always hot around 90degrees celcius and stays at that temp no matter what, is there a way of bringing it down cos the induction kit is taking in hot air even though its got some flimsy plastic cold air intake.

I would like to find a way of getting the heat down in the engine and or getting some actual cold air into the induction kit.

get some more ducting from halfords and make more air feeds

Might do that then and get a heat shield but wish there was a way of bringing the engine heat down.

I read that a k&n induction kit is supposed to give you around 10% extra horsepower??

dunno about 10%....but it made my car run better so im happy

been thinkin about gettin an induction kit , how do 16v's respond to these , i know it makes some cars run like a pig ! any sugestions of good ones? im looking to tidy up the engine bay and a litte more performance /noise wouln't go a miss either , but if its gonna run like a dog and cain fuel???

matey i wud suggest if u wanna tidy up the bay and make it look good and perform awesome!!..get a pipercross viper with cold air feed its costs about £200.00 but the roar and the throttle response you get is second to none compared alot of the normal induction kits like k&n..personally it wudnt stand a chance against it..plus its got a shield around it and only sucks in cold air...my engine temp never hits half way...usally stays quarter!!...

My old MK2 KR went better with std Air box and panel filter than with induction kit, i was given one and had it on for a month but took it off due to cack idle and MPG in Brixton Traffic.
Put it onto my 8v and got lower MPG but better pick up.
In  both cases top speed was same as before and on KR was more sluggish up to 4K when the cam starts to come on.
Cold air feed is essential for rev pick up and MPG.
I did find that if i cained it i used more fuel than before but no real difference if you take it easy, Maybe because you get addicted to the noise so rev the engine harder? not sure but i dfo lost 30 miles a tank
BUT!
Window open foot down sounds wicked especialy in tight country lanes and tunnels! Worth it just for that if you got the petrol money
Plus its all about the modding anyway if you want a fast car buy a VR or a Swift ( )

Thats a wicked looking peice of kit

This is my de trumpeted and drilled box looks std in car but sounds great with KN Panel. Dumped the induction kit in the Golf "Box" at me dads along with all me over bits!
