I don't think that Milltek have let their quality slip but it's true that there have been occasional issues as happens with nearly every manufacturer. Milltek have been and perhaps still are the market leader in the UK. In my experience, if issues occur they are excellent at doing everything to look after the customer.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for that information RE the AWE import.

I decided to do a little "asking around" as the whole thing about AWE finding that a 3" downpipe was too big for a MKV raised some questions .... mainly the fact that both Miltek and APR use 3" systems, so it got me thinking what it actually is that makes the AWE product so good.

So...after a chat with Paul at APR, we did some research and discovered that the GIAC map used on the AWE test car was a generic map, and was therefore not tuned to allow for the larger downpipe, and therefore greater air mass created. He says that from his experience of both APR and Miltek products neither have the same issue with their 3" designs. Furthermore, he said that the technical department of AWE's headquarters in America were quite unexperienced compared with that of APR and Miltek.

I think this has swayed it for me, and I don't think I'll consider AWE anymore. It does just seem quite strange that they have kept using 2.5" - which afterall is what the stock system is. It seems that the main power gains that they have achieved from their 2.5" system are from their metal cat and because they remove the main silencer completely.

HTH

I've known Milltek for some time and have periods when I speak with or see them quite often. Milltek work closely with the established good tuners to ensure that their products will perform as they are supposed to. The exhaust plays an important and complimentary part with a remap.

Conversely, a poor remap by Joe Bloggs can damage the cat by over-fuelling for example.

As I've posted before - Every manufacturer can have its bad batch or a temporary issue and it's unfair when such a relatively rare occurrence sets off strong negative talk in the car forums.

I'm not saying that, in my opinion, Milltek is better than any of the others but I am saying that their performance exhausts are top notch and very carefully developed to perform well. Most importantly, Milltek stand behind their products and if you do have a problem they will do everything they can to put it right and that includes outright replacement.

Following Top Cat's excellent advice, here is a useful link for exhausts from an american forum:

The Eurojet exhausts look quite cool, and seem to be rated pretty highly on this forum! Maybe another worth considering!

....I'm afraid that I've always had a problem with the accuracy of a vid soundtrack on the internet - It simply never reproduces the sound accurately enough. Always try and experience an exhaust in an actual car, both inside and out.

Oh your right without doubt! Online videos will never be an accurate representation of the sound. Thats why I've made so much effort to see and hear the exhausts in real life. But the link gives a very comprehensive list of different exhausts, that others on this forum that are perhaps considering an exhaust could find useful
