Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my catalytic convertor has failed will I get a fault reading as I have been informed that it has failed , however i think that it is the heat shield that is noisy, I have no fault readings on my display

The emissions light on the dash would normally come up on a Mk4 Golf.  When the light comes on it can mean one of several things, so you have to run some diagnostics software, like VAG-COM, which your local VW specialist would have, or your main VW dealer would run the VW diagnostics system.

You sure it's not the outer cap on the bearings ? Mine comes loose from time to time and makes a noise, easy enough to push it back on.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

I would say heat shield first.  Then exhaust baffles second.  The cells in the cat can collapse, but the rattle is very distinctive, unlike an exhuast baffle rattle.
