What can I do with a GTI engine?
« on: 09 September 2008, 00:38 »
As per title, I am gonna get a 8V GTI at the end of the month and want to know what I can do to the engine considering I could do bugger all to the 1.8 GL. LOL!

And what's the BHP standard?

Yea not much more than the 1.8 really,  its the same engine,  just diffrent pistons and fuel system basicly.   although being MPI opens up alot moe doors for fuel system tuning.

It will, you've got a whole load of extra horses & obviously the GTi suspension & brakes, even the better interior!

Your 1.8 should be the abs lump with has 90bhp!! The main difference you'll notice will be much more torque which make the gti feel lots faster when overtaking etc and the gti also has better steering, improved suspension (not just the shocks but the arms, roll bars etc) and much better brakes. All you really need is a better exhaust, air filter and make the suspension stiffer and it will drive much more like the gti is meant to!

Depends on budget I guess. Like has already been said a good filter and zorst is a start, Shell V-Power [yes honestly!] fuel.

Do these respond to being chipped? Proper chips not the fleabay £1.99 "mod-chip"

Going a bit further, polished and ported head...fast road cam...turbo charging....the list goes on. Like I said - down to budget really. Or shoehorn another lump in there like a nice 20v Turbo

Go the handling route = Lots more fun
