best oil ????

so tt what shall i use ? midland vw are saying they use q8 longlife 3  !  or do i get the 5/30 castrol edge ?

You are joking, right!    That must mean they have a bulk contract with Q8.  I certainly would not regard Q8 oils as "premium" quality.  I do know they had forays into the British Superbike Championship, but I never recall them being successful - so if they can't win in the very public arena of motorsport, then I'd not be putting the stuff in my engine.

And I'd be interested in what Volkswagen Germany had to say about using Q8 (VW UK probably couldn't give a fig).  Castrol, or Fuchs, or Shell as bulk contract suppliers, but not Q8!    At least it isn't Tesco Value oil!

Annoyed at the price, maybe.

But the oil is OK - and is one of the few Mobil oils which have actually been tested by VW.    All their other Mobil 1 oils have lies on the back about being VW approved!

Do it yourself

When the car is off, hold the reset button on the right side of the dash (0.0). Then turn the key to the on position(don't start the engine) and once the service now words come out on the display press the minute(m) button on the right. That should reset it

Just been and bought castrol edge. I'm having to refill after 5000 miles, just out of interest is that what you guys are finding?

Most modern engines use quite a bit of oil in their early life, it's normal and will settle down
