as far as i know, there's nothing against elephant using autoglass for all of their windscreen replacements.
'Fraid you are very wrong there. Two completely separate "standards" prevent them - the first is UK legislation, and the second is ABI code of practice.
They
may try to get away with it, and with peeps like you, will probably succeed, but put your foot down, stand up for your rights, and they will cave in.
I do the same kind of deals in bars, i'll sign them onto a sole premium packaged lager agreement where they can only stock our brands.
Didn't know Bud or Stella had to be crash tested! Does it have an "E" number on it!

Please try to stick with the subject in question!

And I think if those bars knowingly sold different beers to what was on the pump handle, then they too can be prosuecuted. Deception is a serious criminal offence.

If Elephant are getting the most competitive rate through Autoglass Vs i dunno there's nothing to stop them from doing so...
Wrong again. Firstly, all UK insurers MUST only use OEM parts (unless an agreement is reached with the policyholder not to). Secondly, any insurance company who categorically states that you MUST ONLY use AutoGlass, or another sole provider, is in very clear, and absolute breach of UK legislation. There is absolutely no defence for this. As a policyholder, and a resident of the UK, you are 100% within your rights to demand the work is carried out by a company of your choice, and using genuine parts - and without any penalty (inflated cost). OK, Elephant may try to shaft you come renewal, but then you certainly wouldn't be staying with them!
Isn't all uk glass manufactured by pilkington anyway - I remember them being investigated by the competition commision and they ruled in favour of a monopoly as it was the best for the end customer?
Erm, read the thread thoroughly.

AutoGlass manufactures all its own glass at its own facility in South Africa (which is not subjected to EU legislation).

Volkswagen, in case you didn't realise, are a German company,

and they don't make cars in the UK (apart from Bentleys at Crewe

).

Furthermore, Volkswagen can source OEM glass from a variety of suppliers, and the Golf OEM glass is made by the French company, Saint Gobain.
