Thinking about selling my GTI, whats a fair price?
« on: 08 September 2008, 12:28 »
I'm considering selling my GTI and wondered whats it worth? It's an 07 Pearl black standard manual GTI with 13K miles and FVWSH. The only option is cruise control.
I bought this car from a dealer knowing that it was an import from Holland. I registered it with VWUK and it came with 2 years warranty from time of PDI, which runs out end of December this year. The warranty can be extended.
It's taxed till December and the tyres are very good. It took a long time to find this car, as I'd viewed quite a few that weren't as described! The car is in excellent condition, no dents/scrapes or scuffed wheels! Been a pleasure to own, but now I need something a little larger (kids and camping)? I've looked on various sites/mags and the prices seem to vary quite a bit, from around £15K to £17K. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Suppose it depends on how quick you wanna sell it and to be honest prices have dropped due to the credit crunch.  You got another car in mind?
Golf SOLD. Replaced with a Yamaha Raptor 660 quad and loving it. This will be replaced in August with a Raptor 700. Sold the quad now got a Vectra GSI 2.5 V6 and its the nuts.

I'd say £14 - £15 tops for a private sale - probably £11.5 - 12k part ex as it's an import (if you are lucky)

Market isn't good at the moment with the credit crunch and carbon footprint lefties running the country

My advice is keep it.

agree with cass, you'll be lucky to see 13K for trade in. Not really the time to trade up in the current climate.Sell privately to get maybe 15k.

Dealers simply do not have the cash to splash currently.

Not having a go mate but how do people not manage with Kids in a car this size? My Mum a nd Dad used to take me and bro all over the country in a MKII Ford fezza 1.1. What do kids need now that they didn't then?

I think the camping might have something to do with it!

I agree though. A colleague recently had his first child and immediately traded his TT and A3 in for a Range Rover Sport, claiming they needed more space! I mean I'm no expert, my wife and I are expecting our first in March, but babies are pretty small right?! I've certainly no plans for trading in my GTi, though I do feel fortunate that I chose a 5 door.

a Mk5 especially a 5 door will carry the same as a Hangover sport! (people terms and boot space). Ive tried a larger car in an estate passat, and got bored of it very very quickly.and in essance, the boot in the golf is big enough for your day to day dutties including having 2 young kids of 1 and 5 years old.

When someone can actually point of why a car like a hangover or toureg etc can carry more people etc, is talking bollox!.A friend of mine has a merc ML and i can sit the same number of people in mine as comfortable as the Merc.

unless you're desperate to get rid, i too would agree with cass and just say keep it. If you sell it now it wont be for a price near what you probably feel it is worth in reality. If some people are selling these for 17k they wont get it. As a point of comparison for you, I paid 17k for mine about 1.5-2 months ago. Thats an 08 plate with only 2000 miles on the clock, with leather, monza 2s arm rest etc. And its not an import. i think even 15k is gona be your TOP price at this point, its a buyers market and whoever makes you an offer will know this. So i say its a great car - keep it!

I thinks it women and the feel safe factor, I am driving a big car so if anything happens were fine, more space lol!

It's a 2007 ED 30 (Aug 07), 11,000 miles .. looks like he got around  £15,450 in the end
