Hello Im new

 :)

Hello, ive got a Mk2 gti 8v on a H plate, and i have a couple of little problems with it that i wouldnt mind fixing, just wondered if they were common easy thngs to fix

1. Rev counter and trip computer dont work, thoguh every now and then they spring into life for a day or so

2. Steering is wobbling poo loads at above say 50, and its not balancing its something to do with the steering rack, just wasnt sure weather there was any bushes that can easliy be replaced or if its a new rack.

3. whats the best way to get it breating a bit better, are pannel filters and drilled airbox's best or induction kits.

4. Whats a good system exhaust wisedont want to go mad, just a nice sound and descreet exhaust tip

Cheers
for any help

1. you could check the voltage regulator in the back of the clocks, it just pulls out and can be replaced for about ?7 from VAG

2. get a proper 4 wheel laser alignment done, if this doesnt cure it, then your ball joints could be knackered

3. simply geting a panel filter and pulling out the resonater tube in the base of the airbox can help. aftermarket induction kits tend cause probs with the air flow meters

4. something like a mongoose i would rate, i have one & cant fault it, though if your car is white i wouldnt get an aftermarket back box as you end up with a piss yellow exhaust stained bumper :( the std angled exit will prevent this

Hi.
As for the rev counter and MFA fault, check the earth wire on the rear of the rocker cover. It is a small ring terminal with a brown? wire and I think it goes on the second stud from the right as viewed from under the bonnet (if you know what I mean ::)).
Steve.

p.s. if you're anywhere near Dagenham check out Elite for the wheel alignment, ask for Keef (yes that is how you spell it)

he did mine, made a huge difference.

Gav ;)

Thanks for the welcome and the advice will give that a try.
dont think its the lignment but might get it put on anyway just to make sure its all nice, i had a mk2 driver a few years ago and it handled much better than this so could be a problem somewhere :)

if the driver handled better then you have problems!!

u'd need to go round the whole car and check all bushes (could be done easily if you have access to a ramp)

Ill try and have a good look round at the weekend, would 17's make it handle worse than the standard 14's?
Cheers :)
