Rain Closing with VAG COM
« on: 07 September 2008, 00:47 »
Stumbled across the rain closing mod on www.golfmkv.com

Basically it shuts your windows if you leave them open and it rains.  You get a new addition to the menu in the FIS too allowing you to turn this on and off.

The procedure involves going into menu 46 Comfort System Controller, set Byte 09 from HEX 04 to HEX 02 (you can also use the tick boxes in the long coding helper)

I did this and everything worked as planned.   I poured a glass of water over the sensor and the windows rolled up.   There are a few conditions.  The car has to be locked, it does not kick in straight away (usually after 2 mins)  and it disables itself after 24hrs (presumably to save the battery as the sensor will be on)

The only confusing bit is there is another change to make in VAG COM, you have to go into the central electrics (09)  and change a few things there.  It wasn't explained why you had to change them.

EDIT:  See post further down for variation on the following procedure.
Part No: 1K0 955 559 AF
Component: RLS 260607 046 0204
Coding: 00207646
Shop #: WSC 05055

Change 00207646 to 00469790

The first number on mine was 00208933, I changed it to 00469790 anyway and there doesn't seem to be any adverse effects.   Does anyone know what this bit means?

Oh, and if anyone wants to know the pics above were from the American spec car in the thread and "ATA Confirm" on the menu is to do with the Anti Theft Alarm, apparently you can turn the beeps on or off when you lock the car, rather than using VAG COM

interesting find.

link to the original reference http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58081&highlight=rain+closing

That's where I got the info (as stated above) It does not answer the question about the VAG COM coding though.

Cool find - thanks for sharing it.

I really, really must get a lappie.  Keep on pulling the plug out of the wall socket on my desktop!

Have you tried the Ross-Tech Wiki site?

Do you have the ATA VAG-COM info?

I've just been looking for this.  It turns out that the US models don't have the chirp module "and that's like 300 bucks" lol.

Theirs uses the horn for alarm confirm hence the menu option to turn it off.   I've had a look round vag com but can't find the option.   Maybe you have to code the car as a US model.

OK

Quick update.  Just done some extensive research on Vortex (painfull, lol)

On some cars, the rain closing works only if you have headlights set to Auto and wipers set to Auto on others it works regardless.  Seems to depend on the year but I haven't got to the bottom of this yet.

It activates after 2 minutes and deactivates after 24hrs.   It will close the windows regardless if they are all the way open or just vented.

The long number is significant.  It's a converted HEX value so...

Part No: 1K0 955 559 AF
Component: RLS 260607 046 0204
Coding: 00207646
Shop #: WSC 05055

If your value is 00207646 to 00469790
BUT
If your value is 00208933 like mine was, change it to 00471077

On a side note, for those who hate the rain sensor wipers (I know some people do) you can deactivate them in VAG COM and the first position will act just like normal intermittant wipers.

OK just tell me to shut up and mind your own business but if it deactivates after 24 hours does that not mean you need to re-set it every time you think you might leave the window's open.  :undecided:

LOL

24 hrs each time you lock the car.  Probably to save the battery as the sensor willl be on.

Lock it next time and it will activate it self!

If it rains after 25 hrs and your windows are still open, I think your seats will get wet.
