Do I stay or do I go?
« on: 06 September 2008, 21:13 »
Evening all,

I have a dilemma, I'm in love with the new S3 and was planning to change and get a brand new 09 plate in March, with all the extras Ive planned I wont have much change from 35k. Depending on the deposit this could be in excess of £450 - £500 a month, which is no probs at all. I'll have just turned 21 by then so insurance at £981 makes it even more appealing.

My other option is keep the Anni and spend this money modding her a bit and also look to move out. If I decided to keep the Anni, I'm thinking R-Tech remap, full exhaust, new suspension and i'm open to any other ideas from anyone. Moving out really isnt at all high on my agenda as I'm more interested in cars. I know this is a bit of a silly question to ask on a golf forum but im sure a few of you appreciate the beauty of the new S3 i.e. styling, power, 4WD, and understand the dilemma I have from my sitation.

Advice is greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks

Jon

Worst thing you could possibly do is buy a brand new car.  But I can assure you you won't pay attention to what any of us say about that, I didn't when I bought a new car a few years ago, it's a mistake everyone has to make for themselves :)

Having said that, if you can easily afford it, why not eh??  I know I'd love a nice S3.

no brainer mate - keep the Anni and mod her

don't see the point in accumalting that much debt in a brand new car; you'll lose so much money it would be unreal.  wait 2-3 years and pick up a 2nd hand S3 when prices are more sensible.

Before i bought the Golf i was looking at Audi A3's and A4's but they were an extra 4-5K and didnt really offer anything extra over the Golf.  In the end i did stretch my budget for my Golf but see it as an investment and plan to keep it until it goes no more

Got to remember that the S3 being 4WD is inline for some nice tax increases which will hit your pocket hard; plus with rising fuel costs you'll get better mpg from the Anni all day, every day

Stay with the anni!!!!!! Id never buy a brand new car down to the amount u lose as soon as you turn the keys. Wat kinda job u got to be able to afford that kinda money? im jealous. Anni is bad enough on the petrol. Really noticing the difference from my old saxo. So much better to drive tho :)

I'm a high voltage Distribution Electrical Technician for a big company called ABB, finished my 4 year apprenticeship on monday so ive been let loose with 11,000 volt equipment haha!! All depends how you drive it, had 40mpg, also had 8mpg lol. I love it to drive too, im sure a remap and exhaust will make it even better, im expecting approx 230-240 bhp from that at a rough guess?? is that ambitious?

Gd move, would never have a Chicken Paxo but I guess thats personal choice!

I thought 220 was easily achievable from a remap alone?

Guess it depends, your car is 180bhp anyway isn't it?  Mine was 150bhp, and anything over 200 from just a re-map would be wishful thinking on a normal GTI.

Sounds like a good job. If i hadnt moved out form my folks i mite have about that much to throw about lol. to late to say that tho. Not sure bout the tuning, sure ive heard you can get it up to 220bhp with just a remap. Not 100%, bound to be lots on this forum bout a remap. Im getting an average of 25mpg just now. Mostly small journeys tho. Bought the car in bristol and drove it back up to sunny scotland and got bout 37mpg. Cant complain tho. Love it to drive

It's about getting a good balance of power/torque, not just the maximum amount possible.
