I use 10-40 myself, tide me over until I get the oil changed.

For the 1.8T vw recommend fully synthetic 5W -30 oil

Tho went into my dealers and the took my reg and said i need to use castrol magntec 10/40

you going to trust what the Americans say?

i'd go for a thicker oil to give you better engine protection; you may find with that 'sport stuff' you'll be topping up the oil regularly

i will put in in and see what happens, if it drinks it i will change it. what is the worst it can do?

I've always run 10-40 in the majority of my cars. It's seems to be quite multi purpose, fits all cars
