alarm/immobiliser question

hey guys,

still struggling to start my mk2 16v after a head rebuild. it just keeps turning over and over. i have a very weak spark to all four leads, which i think is the problem. have done all the usual checks ie. timing, earths, fuel priming etc.

whilst rummaging under the dashboard, i found a flashing red LED and a cobra 7928 alarm box. whoever fitted it has completely bodged the wiring, there's insulating tape everywhere! i don't have any of the key fobs for the alarm.

basically i need to know if the alarm's immobiliser system retards the spark and fuelling, or does it just cut feed to the starter motor? am just wondering if this could be the cause of my weak spark, and if so, how do i disable it?

anyone with the same alarm please tell me how the immobiliser stops it starting,

An immobilisers job is just that. To immobilise. It would have been connected to the starter, the coil and the fuel pump or all three. If it was that you wouldn't get any spark whatsoever me thinks.

Do a compressiom check amd cleam/replace the plugs.
As for the imsulatimg tape, take the tape off ome of the commectioms to check if he has soldered the wires together or just twistwed them.

think it's time for a new coil and ignition module

rip all the alarm/immob out and splice all the wires together, could be a dry joint in the unit is reducing power to coil or whatever, plus if it has no fobs no point keeping it under there, and if wiring has been bodged you could end up with a short = fire!
