could somebody clarify weather an 8v gti and 16v downpipe are the same at the flange end

if you mean where downpipe meets exhaust 16v is wider

im talking about after the manifold where 2 pipes go into a box then that joins the xzorst are the flanges that meet at the manifold end be a direct swap

if your downpipe/manifold joint is held together with six bolts 8v or 16v are both same
are you wanting to fit a 8v downpipe to a 16v or vice versa

i own a 16v with middle and back stainless i got given another downpipe which they claim is definately 8v how much difference is they're in bore because i not too long ago paid for a reducer to be welded to the stainless which fits the 16v downpipe perfectly

if the downpipe that you were given is just 2 pipes that go into one it is 8v but if it has a silencer on it its a 16v one
if you have a 16v system it will match upto a 16v downpipen without modifications
if you have a 16v system it will need a reducer to fit to a 8v downpipe

I checked my spare today it has a silencer im now assuming 16v

Would the 8v one be any better with it not having the silencer?

if your car has a reducer welded to the system to fit to an 8v downpipe i would fit a new 8v downpipe
also 16v downpipe is a lot harder to fit as you have to remove subframe to fit where as an 8v you can just get it in if you get enough clearance underneath car and jack engine up a bit
