Water getting in rear driver's light
« on: 04 September 2008, 18:50 »
Hi all.

I have a 2.0 MK4 recently purchased.  As we've had a lot of rain lately I've started noticing condensation building up in the side of my rear driver's light.  There's a small amount of water accumulating in the bottom too.  Is there any way I can reseal the unit or does it mean getting a new light?  How can I check to find where the water is getting in?

Many thanks.

Alex.

check the plastic cover on the rear of the headlight

might be best to remove the headlight and have a look at the seals  - means removing the bumper which is a 15 minute job and very easy

You're talking to a proper Golf newbie.  I have no idea how to do that.  The light seems okay in general must just be a small hole somewhere.  What do I seal it with?

Cheers but it's the light at the back.

Okay I'll have a ganders will get a gasket anyway it's all it can be.  Is the gasket easy to change?  I assume that means taking the actual light apart?

no need to take the light apart - the gasket sits on the rear of the housing
