Not a rant TC, what gets "my goat"  is owners of highly modified ED30's going on about how they have beaten every standard, less power car on the planet. 

If it was all about a "how high can you pee" competition, I'd go out and get a Subaru P1 (like a good friend of mine has) and modify it.

Then I'd post how I'd Mullah'd many an ED30....

It would have, its got more power than standard, weighs less and has a whacking great turbo on it. Its not all about how fast you can go.

Sigh.... 


Ohh I'd better go out and buy a GTR as its faster.. oh no wait, its Japanese, guzzles fuel and likey to get nicked while touring europe  

Oh no, wait, I'd better waste some cash on modifying a standard car to the point the gearbox plays up and it becomes unreliable.

Not only will it be unreliable, I'll have a job to sell it on, the residual value will be a lot less and it will need constant replacement parts/tuning....

But hey, its faster lol.

Then again, my car has never been unreliable and it is still faster than a Merc 350 and it has the added benefit that I won't look like a hairdresser.

Also not called for, I just asked if anyone knew where to go for a decent Merc forum. I dont have a choice, SWMBO want one and thats it. Instead, I have comments like that which is frankly tedious, one of the reasons I ignore the "what car have you beaten in your GTI". Other forums mock that type of thread, especially posts by modified ED30 owners. I now see their point.

....I agree with you NewGolf and, as you know only too well, my GTI ride is heavily modified. I haven't even looked in the "What car have you beat in your GTI?" sticky! I kinda know what I'd be reading and I find it pathetic quite honestly. If you were to take someone like the trainer Don Palmer, and many other such skilled drivers, he'd run circles around 95% of any of the drivers in this forum, as modified as much as you like and he in a stock one, probably a basic Golf not even a GTI!

Have fun, love your driving, drive fast WHEN conditions allow, and DON'T drive fast when conditions aren't appropriate - Above all, drive SAFELY!! and don't be an immature arsehole with a complex. What are you trying to prove?

Healthy debate is  but this is going to turn into the evening's entertainment we all know how this one will go.

....In my opinion it's a no-brainer and not even debateable: Drive to have fun but safe journeys. Don't road race and especially with people you don't know really well as drivers.
