Can anyone identify this??

with the car up on a ramp i spotted this stray wire rubbing on my shaft..      Anyway its quite thick, an its red with a black stripe and comes out of the main loom...   Everything works to my knowledge, any ideas?!

starter motor trigger I'd say, notice the random non-vag blue wire you have on your starter that i guess hasd been used to 'fix' the problem 
I love the nice safe routing of it too, well away from the gear linkage, clutch lever etc

Completely agree. Think you're spot on RJ. Loving the safe route too. Might as well wrap it around the throttle to just for good measure!
